Gun Violence Prevention
Gun violence is a public health issue, and we are committed to reducing its impact through:
Supporting mental health care access and suicide prevention initiatives
Funding programs to reduce homicides and gun-related violence in neighborhoods
Advocating for the closure of the “Charleston loophole” and restricting access to firearms for individuals convicted of violent crimes
Together, we can build safer communities for everyone
Gun violence is a pressing issue that affects families, friends, and communities across the nation. At ARA, we approach this challenge with empathy, evidence-based solutions, and a commitment to change. Here’s how we’re working to prevent gun violence:

Mental Health Care Access
We believe in universal background checks for all firearm purchases. This includes closing dangerous loopholes that allow individuals with histories of violence, such as stalkers and abusive partners, to acquire guns

Reducing Homicides and Community Violence
Funding intervention programs in neighborhoods affected by high rates of gun violence can help break cycles of crime and provide alternatives for at-risk individuals. We advocate for proven strategies that reduce homicides and gun-related injuries

Closing Legal Loopholes
We support closing the “Charleston loophole,” which allows firearm sales to proceed if background checks are not completed within three days. Additionally, we believe individuals convicted of violent crimes should be prohibited from owning firearms

Research and Data
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) should have sufficient resources to study gun violence as a public health issue. Understanding the root causes and impacts of gun violence is crucial for crafting effective solutions
Preventing gun violence requires a comprehensive approach that addresses root causes and prioritizes safety. By working together, we can create communities where everyone feels secure and valued.
