Legislative Priorities
We champion policies that balance rights with responsibilities, including:
Universal background checks and licensing requirements
Repealing liability protections for gun manufacturers
Supporting local control of gun regulations
Your voice matters. Stand with us to advocate for meaningful change
Gun violence is a pressing issue that affects families, friends, and communities across the nation. At ARA, we approach this challenge with empathy, evidence-based solutions, and a commitment to change. Here’s how we’re working to prevent gun violence:

Mental Health Care Access
Many gun deaths are linked to mental health struggles, including suicides. We support initiatives that make mental health care more accessible and reduce the stigma surrounding it. Suicide prevention programs are essential to saving lives.

Reducing Homicides and Community Violence
Funding intervention programs in neighborhoods affected by high rates of gun violence can help break cycles of crime and provide alternatives for at-risk individuals. We advocate for proven strategies that reduce homicides and gun-related injuries.

Closing Legal Loopholes
We support closing the “Charleston loophole,” which allows firearm sales to proceed if background checks are not completed within three days. Additionally, we believe individuals convicted of hate crimes should be prohibited from owning firearms.

Research and Data
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) should have sufficient resources to study gun violence as a public health issue. Understanding the root causes and impacts of gun violence is crucial for crafting effective solutions
Preventing gun violence requires a comprehensive approach that addresses root causes and prioritizes safety. By working together, we can create communities where everyone feels secure and valued.
